Hello

I haven’t been on-line for awhile now, about a week it seems longer. I haven’t had a chance to post new material so tonight I am going to post some new new videos just for that sake of learning something new. I should be concentrating on my other things now that class has ended. But it is difficult to switch my energies from one intense course to another. I haven’t got much to say right now just thought I would stop by and say hello.

What is Spam?

I was thinking about this today when I noticed that there were two blocked spam mail and another one bloked in my blog site. So I went to wikipedia to read about it and it says, Spam is the abuse of electronic messaging systems, from wikipedia. Here’s the link to the whole definition,

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spam_(electronic)

I was wondering what it was. I wonder, what would happen if I approved the comment with the spam mail? Anyone know.

Animoto

I seen this site before in Leanne’s blog but I didn’t check it out. I thought I would check it out today. And I think it’s easy to use. So I made a short video using the pictures and song provided by animoto. It’s actually pretty cool. I’m sure students would enjoy using it.

You may have to play it twice, it works better the second time around.

Digital Students @ Analog Schools

If you want some reasons as to why we should teach technology in the schools take a look at this video from the media section of EC&I 831 site. Or if you want to share this with reluctant teachers who say they don’t have time to learn about computers and technology.  You should show them this video it is an explanation from students as to the importance of using technology to teach them. They say that old way of lecturing and learing from texts is just not good enough anymore. They say that to be prepared for the workforce they need to learn about computers and its applications to be able to compete in the jobs they will be doing.

Open and Networked Teaching

The positive and negative aspects of my learning the network and its innumerable programs and applications is really quite small. There are so many tools for so many purposes that it seems to be too much. I have learned some of the basics of some programs such as Youtube, I even downloaded a video once and onto wikispaces. I found it so cool to be able to do that. It required some reading and some trial and error and some cursing and so on. But too be able to do that was awesome. My project is on wikispaces. I was still able to make the site work for my students to be able to conduct their assignments online. I heard some great feedback from some of them in our classroom. Some even said it was better than learing in the classroom. I had them do a small unit in bullying. www.dlinkela10b.wikispaces.com , If you have any ideas as to how I can improve this site as I will be using it again later, feel free to send your comments to www.djlink_ssl@hotmail.com. Thanks. I didn’t quite use the full potential of wikispaces but I am aware there is way more to it than what I have used so far. I’m still learing about it. That’s it for now.

Bullying Video…

I really like this video, one of my students found it and posted it to our wiki site. I think it covers a whole range of bullyingincidents and reasons. It really covers a lot. Check it out. May be you can share with your students.

Digital Strategies for Teaching

This is a very neat video. It will pose some really good reasons as to why we should teach with technology. I laughed a few times because it was amusing at times. It does makes sense though. It would be good to show teachers that are reluctant about using computers to teach. May be they will change their minds after viewing this video. I’m going to share this with my colleagues at school. It should be fun and at the same time motivating, I hope!

Web 2.0 The machine Is Us/ ing Us

This video is somewhat fast but we have pause buttons to take the time to read but I don’t think that is the intent of this video. I’m not sure if we seen this before but I wanted to post it up here. It makes me wonder, where are we headed with technology?

Teachers Teaching Teachers

I found this type of communication can be very useful and insightful. I heard teachers exchange ideas and projects they are trying with their students in different parts of the United States and I’m pretty sure around the world also. There are no borders when you are on-line learning from other people. I also heard that technology can be very motivating for students to learn. They have a purpose and they are going to have an audience and that is a motivating for them to learn new content. Someone also suggested that there is more out there to offer than just microsoft office. I agree, since we started this class I believe I came a long way in my use of the tools that are available online. I have found that the internet is way much more than just for research purposes. There was a big discussion on digital pictures, making videos, and video production. I just listened and found the discussion to be worthwhile. I can see why students are inspired to learn, its the technology, they can see a finished product that can be viewed by their peers, school or community. And it is a fun way to do something.

I think you should check this site, really good videos on why we should encourage the use of the internet.
